Lochnell Primary Pupils Bring Joy to Residents

Etive House was filled with joy and laughter this week as we welcomed a group of enthusiastic pupils from Lochnell Primary School for a special intergenerational visit. Six pupils, accompanied by two teachers, spent a memorable afternoon with our residents, creating lasting bonds through stories, songs, and shared smiles.

The visit began with a heartwarming story session, where one of our lovely resident volunteers read The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson to the children. The room was silent with concentration as the pupils sat attentively, captivated by the tale and the warmth of the storyteller's voice. The resident's gentle reading sparked memories and smiles among many of our residents, who thoroughly enjoyed the chance to engage with the younger generation.

After the story, the energy in the room soared as the children treated everyone to a lively performance of their favourite rhymes. With encouragement from their teachers and a warm welcome from the audience, the pupils sang cheerfully - prompting residents to join in with claps, verses, and plenty of laughter.

Biscuits were passed around as conversation flowed, and it was clear that both residents and pupils thoroughly enjoyed one another's company. While the children asked questions and shared stories from school, the residents responded with fond memories and friendly advice.

These types of intergenerational visits are more than just a lovely afternoon - they provide meaningful connections that benefit everyone involved. The residents gain the joy of youthful energy, while the children benefit from the wisdom and kindness of older generations.

Visits like this one highlight the importance of fostering intergenerational relationships in care settings. At Etive House, we believe these connections enrich the lives of our residents, support wellbeing, and build community across generations.

We would like to extend a big thank you to the pupils and staff at Lochnell Primary School for making the journey and sharing such a special afternoon with us. We hope to welcome them back very soon for another day of stories, songs, and shared joy.
