VE Day Celebrations Bring Joy and Reminiscence

Residents at Etive House were treated to a heartwarming musical performance over the weekend following VE Day, as local singing group The Boogies returned for a special commemorative concert.

The Boogies, a much-loved group of volunteer performers, delighted residents with a nostalgic programme of wartime songs and other well-known melodies. Their performance brought the spirit of VE Day to life, honouring the resilience and memories of those who lived through the war.

Many of Etive House’s residents have vivid recollections of wartime Britain, and the care team felt it was important to create an opportunity for them to reflect, share stories, and celebrate in a way that was both meaningful and uplifting.

The Boogies’ performance sparked not just smiles and singalongs, but also heartfelt conversations among residents about the past—some remembered street parties and dancing in the roads, while others reflected quietly on the friends and family they had lost.

“It helps relieve pressure and settle the soul,” added the team member. “We see first-hand how music opens the door to memory, to joy, and to meaningful connection.”

The Boogies, who give their time and talent purely for the love of singing, were visiting Etive House for the second time—and judging by the warm response from residents and staff alike, it certainly won’t be the last. Their generosity and enthusiasm helped create a truly special afternoon.

At Etive House Care Home, events like this form part of a wider commitment to enriching the lives of residents through thoughtful, person-centred activities that support emotional wellbeing and encourage social engagement.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to The Boogies for their continued support and for helping to make our VE Day commemorations so memorable.
