Resident-Led Musical Afternoons at Our Care Home
So far this new year, we have introduced residents to weekly musical afternoons that have been great for combatting the January blues, and getting our residents up and moving.
Our musical afternoon sessions have been a great success with our residents, who are really getting involved and getting into the swing of them.
The team at our care home in Oban puts on a different playlist each week which include some of our residents favourite songs and they spend the afternoon dancing and laughing together. Afterwards, the residents enjoy a well-deserved cup of tea.
The benefits of these weekly musical sessions have been immense for our residents, not least as a fun way to combat the January blues and the gloomy weather. The sessions have bought our residents and staff closer together, encouraging them to socialise and get to know one another better.
The sessions have also been something that our residents look forward to each week, and has really boosted their moods. Music and dancing alone have their own advantages such as helping residents keep active and improve their coordination.
Music can also greatly impact those living with dementia, as it helps reduce anxiety, supports with communication and certain songs can help to evoke happy memories and feelings.
It has been a great, energetic way to start the year and has really helped our residents start 2023 in a healthy and happy way. We look forward to more dancing and laughing, as well as other activities and events as part of our varied activities programme.
